In Memoriam Göran Sluiter

On 21 September 2026, one of the members of the ICD Steering Committee, Göran Sluiter, passed away.
Göran was Professor of International Criminal Law at the University of Amsterdam, as well as attorney-at-law at Prakken d’Oliveira Human Rights Lawyers in Amsterdam. He was an excellent academic, who published widely in the field of international criminal (procedural) law. He also received prestigious VIDI and VICI grants from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). At the same time, he also had a strong connection to practice, as a substitute judge and later as attorney-at-law in Amsterdam with a specialty in international and cross-border criminal law, representing suspects and victims of international crimes in both Dutch and international criminal cases.
The T.M.C. Asser Instituut is very sad about Göran’s premature passing but also grateful for everything he has meant for the field of international criminal law, including the ICD. We will dearly miss him.
